I’m a content creator and TV and radio host, and now I guess a trip leader!
For years, I let the fear of doing things on my own stop me from seeing so many incredible places. Sometimes I struggled to leave home in Cork and go to Dublin.
Eventually, I decided to push myself and booked a solo trip to my dream destination – New York City. I was nervous, anxious and questioned whether I’d made the right decision, but from the moment I stepped on the plane, everything changed. That trip gave me the confidence to keep exploring, and I’ve been hooked ever since.
Since then, I’ve travelled solo to places like London, Rome, Paris and Istanbul, and even spent six weeks travelling around Vietnam on my own, sharing all the highs (and the occasional low!) along the way. Those experiences taught me that some of the best adventures begin just outside your comfort zone.
As a former primary school teacher I had plenty of time off to travel. When I changed careers, though, travel took a back seat while I found my feet. As exciting as that new chapter has been, I quickly realised just how much I missed exploring the world. I promised myself 2027 was the year I got back on the plane and I honestly couldn’t think of a better way to kick things off than hosting this trip to Mexico.
I can’t wait to explore incredible places, try amazing food, learn about the local culture and, most importantly, experience it all with an amazing group of people. Whether you’re travelling solo or with a friend, my hope is that you’ll leave with unforgettable memories, plenty of laughs, and a few new friends along the way.
I can’t wait to meet you all!

Bienvenidos! Your adventure begins the moment you land at Cancún International Airport, where our private shuttle will be waiting for you. A short ride brings us to our vibrant, centrally located hostel, complete with a pool that’s perfect for your first taste of tropical relaxation.
Tonight we’ll gather for a lively welcome dinner. This is where the fun truly kicks off: sharing laughs over authentic Mexican flavors, getting to know your Tour Leader, and meeting the crew who’ll be your travel family for the next 11 days.
This morning we’re leaving Cancún behind and driving through the flat landscapes of northern Yucatán toward Chiquilá. From here, a short ferry crossing brings us to the sandy beaches of Isla Holbox. The island immediately feels different: sandy roads, colourful murals, beach bars, hammocks, golf carts and a slower Caribbean rhythm.
After check-in the afternoon is free for a first swim, a walk to the pier or sunset on the beach. Later, the group joins a Salsa Lovers Dancing Experience, a fun and social introduction to island nightlife with local instructors, music, movement and a welcome drink.
Today is dedicated to the natural beauty around Holbox. A boat tour takes the group across the island’s surrounding waters to three classic stops: Yalahau, Isla Pájaros and Isla Pasión. At Yalahau, a freshwater spring sits within the mangroves, offering a refreshing swim and panoramic views from the lookout. Isla Pájaros is a protected bird island where frigatebirds, herons and other species gather, while Isla Pasión brings the group to pale sand, shallow water and a wilder, more untouched side of the area. Keep your eyes peeled on the way back and you might just spot some dolphins in the water!
Back in the town you will have some free time to relax and unwind.
This morning is intentionally slow. Holbox is made for unhurried starts, so the group can enjoy hammocks, beach time, swimming, coffee by the sand or simply wandering through the village at their own pace.
After dark, the group joins a bioluminescence walk or kayak tour, one of Holbox’s most atmospheric activities. Away from the brighter lights of town, the water can glow with tiny blue sparks as movement stirs the plankton, creating a magical final night on the island.
After breakfast, the group returns by ferry to Chiquilá and continues inland toward Ek Balam. Less crowded than some of the region’s larger archaeological sites, Ek Balam has a powerful sense of place, surrounded by jungle and crowned by the Acropolis, which travellers can still climb for sweeping views across the treetops. The journey then continues to Cenote Suytun, famous for its circular cavern, still water and dramatic stone platform beneath a shaft of natural light. Entrance and lunch are included here, giving the group time to refresh before continuing to Valladolid. This pastel-coloured colonial city is one of the loveliest towns in the Yucatán, with leafy plazas, quiet churches and warm evening light on painted façades.
An early start brings the group to Chichén Itzá, one of Mexico’s most important and recognisable archaeological sites. With a guide, the visit reveals the stories behind the Pyramid of Kukulkán, the Great Ball Court, ceremonial platforms, sacred cenote and the complex astronomical knowledge built into the city’s design. Arriving earlier in the day helps the group experience the site before the busiest hours. Afterwards, the route continues west toward Mérida, the elegant capital of Yucatán. Wide avenues, old mansions, shaded plazas, live music and excellent food make Mérida one of the cultural highlights of the journey.
This morning is all about flavour. The group heads into Mérida’s local market scene for a guided food experience that brings Yucatecan cuisine to life through its ingredients, stories and street-side favourites. Tastings include salsas, spices, cochinita pibil tacos, lechón al horno, relleno negro, torta de asado and refreshing agua de fruta. It is a lively, sensory introduction to the region’s culinary identity, from slow-cooked meats and smoky marinades to colourful stalls and family-run food counters. The afternoon is free to rest, explore artisan shops, visit museums or wander through the historic centre. In the evening, those interested can join an optional cultural event around Plaza Grande, where Mérida often comes alive with music, dance or open-air performances.
The group leaves Mérida and heads south through the peninsula toward Bacalar. If timings allow, the journey includes a scenic cenote stop en route, adding one more refreshing swim to the day before arriving at one of Mexico’s most beautiful freshwater landscapes. Bacalar’s lagoon is known as the Lagoon of Seven Colours for the shifting blues created by its white limestone bottom, changing depth and tropical light. On arrival, the pace slows immediately. The group can settle in to our hostel on the lake, then watch the sunset over the water, with the old Fort San Felipe and the lagoon’s turquoise bands setting the scene for the next chapter of the trip.
The day begins before the town fully wakes, with a sunrise kayak or paddle board session on the lagoon. In the early light, the water is often calm and glassy, reflecting the sky as the group moves quietly across the surface. After the paddle, the day continues with time at Cenote Azul or Cocalitos, both classic Bacalar stops for swimming and relaxing by the water. The group also visits Fort San Felipe, a small but fascinating reminder of the lagoon’s pirate-era history. The late afternoon is open for hammocks, swims from the dock or simply soaking up Bacalar’s slower pace.
This morning, the group leaves Bacalar and drives north toward Tulum, where Maya ruins stand above the Caribbean Sea. The visit to Tulum Ruins brings together history and scenery in a way few sites can match: temples, walls and watchtowers overlooking bright blue water and white surf below. The guide will share the story of Tulum as a coastal trading city and explain its role in the wider Maya world. Afterwards, depending on timing and group energy, there may be time for an optional swim at Gran Cenote or a relaxed beach stop. On our final night we’ll have to head out and show everyone the salsa moves we’ve picked up over the past 10 days!
The final day begins gently, with the option of a sunrise yoga session or barefoot beach walk for those who want one last slow morning by the sea. Later, the group travels to Akumal for a guided turtle swim. In the protected bay, travellers can snorkel in clear water and, with luck, see sea turtles grazing calmly on the seagrass below. It is a beautiful final wildlife experience and a fitting close to the journey. After the activity, we will coordinate time for the group to freshen up and prepare for departure before the evening airport transfer.
