Mexico - Exploring the Yucatán Peninsula
An 11 day trip exploring one of the most breathtaking parts of the world – this is the Yucatán Peninsula Experience! This trip has it all, and it’s the perfect blend of history, culture, adventure, and nightlife. We’ll be island hopping around Isla Holbox, cooling off in fresh water cenotes, sampling some world famous food, and ticking off one of the Seven Wonders of the World!

Day 1 – Welcome to Mexico!
Your adventure begins the moment you land at Cancún International Airport, where our private shuttle will be waiting for you. A short ride brings us to our vibrant, centrally located hostel—complete with a pool that’s perfect for your first taste of tropical relaxation. Head straight to Playa Delfines and take a dip in the turquoise Caribbean water!
As the sun sets, we’ll gather for a lively welcome dinner at a traditional cocina. This is where the fun truly kicks off: sharing laughs over authentic Mexican flavors, getting to know your Tour Leader, and meeting the crew who’ll be your travel family for the next 11 days.
Day 2 – Cancún → Isla Holbox
Admire the Yucatán scenery as we drive two and a half hours to Chiquilá. From here, we’ll jump on a 25-minute ferry to car-free Isla Holbox. Streets are sand, taxis are golf-carts, and pelicans perch on fishermen’s skiffs. Check in at our stunning hostel, then wander past colour-splashed houses to the pier for sunset. Keep an eye out for flamingos!
In the late afternoon, sway into the island’s rhythm with a two-hour Salsa Experience—a laid-back outdoor class guided by local instructors, complete with a welcome drink and good vibes all round.
Day 3 – Yalahau, Isla Pájaros & Isla Pasión
This morning’s shared lancha slips into the mangroves of Yalahau Lagoon where a freshwater spring bubbles below; legend says a dip here takes ten years off your age! Next, we’ll venture to the tiny Isla Pájaros which hosts frigatebirds, herons and sometimes even nesting flamingos.
Nearby at Isla Pasión, offers untouched sandbars and beautiful beaches. Back in Holbox village you can follow a self-guided street-art trail that explains local conservation stories. Dinner is at a local taco shack, where we can gather to swap wildlife photos.
Day 4 – Free Beach Day & Bioluminescent Kayaking
Holbox mornings are made for hammocks, kite-surf lessons or chilled coconut coffee. After dark, 4×4 buggies rumble north along the shore to Punta Mosquito. Take in the Milky Way on a cloudless night while you paddle silently across inky water. You’ll e mesmerised by the explosion of neon-blue sparks each time your paddle breaks the surface. A short walk over moonlit sandbanks and a glowing swim among the plankton top off the experience before you return to the hostel.
Day 5 – Ek Balam Pyramids, Cenote Suytun & Mayan Community Visit
Leaving Holbox, you ferry back to the mainland and drive three hours south-west to the archaeological zone of Ek Balam. You can still climb the Acropolis here; from its 32-metre summit the low jungle stretches to the horizon. A short drive then leads to the photogenic cylinder of Cenote Suytun, whose stone platform catches a single shaft of light at midday.
Lunch is served in Ek Balam village where local families teach tortilla-pressing and hammock-weaving before inviting you to cool off in cenote X’Canché. Next up is a colonial gem named Valladolid, located only thirty minutes away. Once checked in to our base for the night, your guide will lead a walking tour to discover leafy plazas, quiet churches and the colourful façades of this charming Yucatecan town.
Day 6 – Early Morning at Chichén Itzá, Evening in Mérida
An early start ensures you reach Chichén Itzá before the crowds, hearing the echoing “jaguar’s roar” under the pyramid of Kukulkán in relative tranquillity. By midday the group turns west to Mérida, Yucatán’s elegant capital where 19th-century mansions line Paseo de Montejo. Evening is free to sample marquesitas (crispy crêpes filled with cheese and Nutella) in the main square or sip craft beer in a shaded patio. The perfect end to a fun filled day!
Day 7 – Taste & Traditions of Mérida
This morning, your local guide leads you on a mouthwatering journey through the heart of Mérida’s food scene. In the bustling Lucas de Gálvez Market, you’ll sample rich salsas, spices and street favourites like cochinita pibil tacos, lechón al horno, relleno negro, and more – all washed down refreshing agua de fruta. It’s a deep dive into Yucatán’s culinary soul!
The afternoon is free to relax or uncover the city’s cultural treasures – perhaps the Gran Museo del Mundo Maya or hidden artisan workshops tucked behind leafy plazas. Come evening, we head to Plaza Grande for an optional cultural event such as folkloric ballet.
Day 8 – Mérida → Bacalar, the Lagoon of Seven Colours
Heading south, the highway dips past mango orchards to a secret cenote where vines dangle like emerald curtains. In the late afternoon you arrive at Bacalar, a truly special place. This limestone-bottomed lagoon shimmers in more colours than you can imagine. From the hostel pier you can watch the sun disappear behind the fort of San Felipe, once a lookout for 18th-century pirates.
Day 9 – Sunrise Paddle & Cenote Azul
At dawn, we’ll venture onto the glass-still water by kayak or paddle board. Fish can be seen swimming beneath the surface as the perfectly still lagoon reflects the rising sun in perfect symmetry. Afterwards we’ll visit the stunning navy-blue pit that is the Cenote Azul – or the mineral-rich shallows of Cocalitos, which is home to the world’s oldest living stromatolites. Late afternoon is yours to float on an inflatable or explore the quiet backstreets by bicycle.
Day 10 – Bacalar → Tulum’s Clifftop Ruins & Tequila Tasting
A three-hour drive brings you to coastal Tulum where temples line the Caribbean surf. Our guide will explain stucco murals and the port city’s role in Maya trade. Afterwards you can swim at Gran Cenote, snorkelling among swallows and stalactites. Alternatively, claim a sun-lounger at a beach club before hostel taco night.
For our last evening together, we’ll be having a group Mescal and Tequila tasting before on final night out to perfect our salsa moves.
Day 11 – Tulum (Dos Ojos Cenotes) → Cancún Airport
Out last day in paradise, and we’re going out on a high! We’ll start the day with a snorkelling tour in Tulum,with a focus on ethical practices as we hope to see some turtles in the water!
In the late afternoon, the group shuttle departs Tulum around 17:00, arriving at Cancún Airport in time for evening international flights. The journey officially ends – but the WhatsApp group will tick on with shared photos and future reunion plans!
